Ezekiel: Prophet of Doom and Hope

Ezekiel was a priest in Jerusalem who was taken captive to Babylon in 597 B.C. at the same time Jehoiachin, the king of Judea, and 10,000 captives were taken away (2 Kings 24). His work was among the exiles in Babylon at a place called Tel-Abib. His prophecies emphasize the sinfulness and certain punishment of the Israelites and of the destruction of Jerusalem which took place in 586 B.C. He also speaks of a glorious future for Israel which was fulfilled by the return from captivity in 536 B.C. and 458 B.C. and in the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
